We are still speechless — on Friday the moment finally came: our kindergarten in Mityana was festively opened.
With beaming faces and deep gratitude we celebrated this moment together with CityChurch, our partner organisation PMCO and many supporters — on site and from afar. The kindergarten is now fully running with 80 children aged three to six attending.
A celebration for the whole village
For the children the day was one thing above all: a celebration. There was a cake with letters and numbers, a balloon arch outside the freshly painted building, face painting, a bouncy castle on the lawn — and ice cream that melted faster on that hot afternoon than the little ones could eat it.
Next to the entrance, three words stand on the wall: Faith, Hope, Love. They have appeared in almost every photo taken here since.
A home for children: thought through from the start
Over the course of the year the building was fully completed — and it is far more than a place to learn:
What was built
- Three group rooms with child-sized tables, chairs, mats and play materials
- A central common room for meals, playtime, parents’ evenings and gatherings
- A playground made from robust local materials
- Sanitary facilities age- and gender-appropriate, with a separate unit for the team
- Mains electricity connected to the local grid — light, fans, power for kitchen and office
Special attention went to culturally fitting, local equipment: uniforms for children and staff were made with seamstresses from the region — strengthening the sense of community and the local economy in equal measure. The teachers received professional clothing, and every room was stocked with teaching materials for pre-school, hygiene, language development and social learning.
Built with the village, not just in it
What moves us most: the project was carried out together with the local community. Parents helped with the construction, young people helped design the playground, local craftsmen carried out the work. From the very start this created ownership and identification — the best foundation for lasting impact.
A place does not come into being with its opening, but through someone making it their own.

This kindergarten is no accident — it is the result of tireless support: prayers, donations and sponsorships. You believed in it, and you made it possible for children who would otherwise have had few chances to come to a safe place of learning and belonging every day.
